St Augustine to New Smyrna Beach 11/7/2009

On the water before 7:00am we were among a flotilla of sail boats heading south. Enjoyed some close quarter sailing in the narrow waterway channel when trading places in line. We motor sailed with our jib making four knots against the tide and 8.5 best with the tide. Ten hours on the water to cover the 68 nautical miles logged today. I was charged with docking immediately beyond our last bridge opening among a small scattering of anchored fisherman. After brief discussion the election was made to attempt slipping the boat sideways between the other boats against the current. The plan was executing well until an eddy caught our keel and turned us. With a brief Chinese fire alarm and narrowly missing contact with our the bow sprint we successfuly avoided the fisherman, the dock and made fast our dock lines. A large motor yacht blocked the view of our messy dockng from the restaurant patrons, thank God for small favors. Nothing particularly notable today so no photos. The skies were sunny with warmer temps ensuring that the snow would hold off for another day, whew. Hope everyone is well.
